Introducing Active ETFs

We've joined forces with Beta Shares to give you access to a new generation of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs). The alliance combines AMP Capital’s excellence in active investment management and the innovation that BetaShares brings to the ETP market.

Trading now on Australia's Stock Exchange (ASX), GLIN, RENT and DMKT are the first Active Exchange Traded Funds (Active ETFs) in their respective asset classes, each offering global exposure and diversification away from the Australian market.

What are Active ETFs?

Active ETFs are actively managed funds which aim to outperform their benchmark. They provide investors with easy access to the capabilities of AMP Capital's fund managers via a simple trade on the ASX.

The Funds benefit from intraday market pricing as well as the publication of a regularly updated indicative net asset value (iNAV) to provide investors with a “fair value” for the Funds throughout the trading day.

Access

Access our Active ETFs on the ASX using any broker. They can be managed and reported alongside all other broker portfolio holdings.

Liquidity

Active ETFs act as their own market maker to provide liquidity for investors.

Diversification

All Active ETFs offer exposure outside of the Australian stock market and provide access to a full portfolio of diversified exposure in just one trade.

Risks

For risks specific to each Fund please refer to the PDS.

Frequently asked questions

How do they differ from the current unlisted AMP Capital managed funds?

Our Active ETFs are similar in many ways to the existing unlisted AMP Capital managed funds. They have the same investment strategies, underlying investment portfolios and distribution frequency as the comparable unlisted fund. They also have the same management costs. The major variation is that the AMP Capital Active ETFs are available to trade via the ASX whereas existing AMP Capital managed funds are not.

There is one additional point to note with the AMP Capital Global Property Securities Fund. The Active ETF, ASX code: RENT, is currency unhedged whereas the original unlisted fund is currency hedged. Being currency unhedged allows investors to manage their currency hedging at a portfolio level, and it also means the volatility of the fund’s distribution payments is less likely to be impacted by currency hedging.

How do Active ETFs differ from ETFs?
Active ETFs are pro-actively managed and aim to outperform their benchmark, whereas ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) are passive and aim to track a particular benchmark or index. Active ETFs are accessible on the ASX with a live market price just like ETFs. They provide investors with the benefit of an indicative net asset value (iNAV) to provide an indicative “fair value” for the Funds throughout the trading day. Full portfolio disclosure for Active ETFs are on a quarterly basis, not daily like ETFs. For more detail see the table on the next page.
How will you seek to ensure there is liquidity within each of the funds?
With the Funds acting as market maker, they have the ability to provide bids/offers in the market at a tight and tradeable spread. In contrast to closed-ended Listed Investment Companies (LICs), the AMP Capital Active ETFs are open-ended, allowing for units to be created and redeemed daily. We expect the combination of these two elements will ensure there is adequate liquidity and that each Fund generally trades around the Net Asset Value (NAV).
Can I switch my current unlisted AMP Capital fund holding into the comparable Active ETF?
No. They are completely different trusts under separate trust vehicles. To switch, you will need to redeem your unlisted AMP Capital fund investment and then buy into the relevant AMP Capital Active ETF via your broker (or vice versa). You should consult with your financial adviser before making an investment decision.
How will the fees differ to existing unlisted AMP Capital managed funds?

Total management costs for the Active ETFs will be the same as the current equivalent AMP Capital unlisted fund (on Platform A-Class).

In addition to the management costs, investors will incur fees from their stockbroker when buying and selling units of the relevant Fund. Note these fees are charged by the stockbroker and not by the Fund. Consult your stockbroker for more information on their fees and charges. Investors will also bear the bid-offer spread when entering and exiting their investment on the stock exchange.

How do I buy and sell units in these Funds?
Transacting to buy or sell units in an AMP Capital Active ETF is done through your regular broker just like buying or selling a share or an ETF. All settlement is via CHESS. Please remember to read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) of each exchange traded managed fund prior to investing.
