Introducing active exchange traded managed funds

We've joined forces with BetaShares to launch the next generation of active exchange traded products. The alliance is a combination of AMP Capital’s excellence in active investment management and the innovation BetaShares brings to the Exchange Traded Product (ETP) market.

What are active exchange traded managed funds?

Exchange traded managed funds are actively managed funds that provide investors with easy access to the capabilities of AMP Capital's fund managers via a simple trade on the ASX.

They are legally structured in exactly the same way as our traditional managed funds but provide live intra-day pricing and liquidity. Investors can buy and sell units in exchange traded managed funds via any stockbroker just like a share. This provides administrative ease and flexibility as they can be monitored and reported on alongside the rest of a portfolio.

Exchange traded managed funds are open ended and act as their own market maker providing live bids / offers and creating new units. The funds benefit from the publication of a regularly updated indicative net asset value (iNAV) which gives investors a “fair value” for the funds throughout the trading day. An indicative net asset value (iNAV) is updated every 15 seconds.

Frequently asked questions

How do the AMP Capital active exchange traded managed funds differ to the current unlisted AMP Capital managed funds?

Our exchange traded managed funds are highly comparable to the existing unlisted AMP Capital managed funds. They have the same investment strategy, investment portfolio and distribution frequency as the comparable unlisted fund. They also have the same management costs. The major variation is that the AMP Capital exchange traded managed funds are available to trade via the ASX whereas existing AMP Capital managed funds are not.

There is one additional point to note with the AMP Capital Global Property Securities Fund. The exchange traded managed fund, ASX code: RENT, is currency unhedged whereas the original unlisted fund is currency hedged. Being currency unhedged allows investors to manage their currency hedging at a portfolio level, and it also means the volatility of the fund’s distribution payments is less likely to be impacted by currency hedging.

How will the AMP Capital active exchange traded managed funds differ from Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)?
Exchange traded managed funds are actively managed and aim to outperform their benchmark, whereas ETFs are passive and aim to track a particular benchmark or index. Exchange traded managed funds will be accessible on the ASX with a live market price like ETFs, and they will provide investors with the benefit of an indicative net asset value (iNAV) to provide a “fair value” for the Funds throughout the trading day. Full portfolio disclosure for exchange traded managed funds will be on a quarterly basis, not daily like ETFs.
How will you seek to ensure there is liquidity within the AMP Capital active exchange traded managed funds?
With the Funds acting as market maker, they have the ability to provide bids/offers in the market at a tight and tradeable spread. In contrast to closed-ended Listed Investment Companies (LICs), the AMP Capital exchange traded managed funds are open-ended, allowing for units to be created and redeemed daily. We expect the combination of these two elements will ensure there is adequate liquidity and that each Fund generally trades around the Net Asset Value (NAV).
Can I switch my current unlisted AMP Capital fund holding into the comparable exchange traded managed fund?
No. They are completely different trusts under separate trust vehicles.  To switch, you will need to redeem your unlisted AMP Capital fund investment and then buy into the relevant AMP Capital exchange traded managed fund via your broker (or vice versa).
How will the fees differ to existing unlisted AMP Capital managed funds?

Total management costs for the exchange traded managed funds will be the same as the current equivalent AMP Capital unlisted fund (on Platform A-Class).

In addition to the management costs, investors will incur fees from their stockbroker when buying and selling units of the relevant Fund. Note these fees are charged by the stockbroker and not by the Fund. Consult your stockbroker for more information on their fees and charges. Investors will also bear the bid-offer spread when entering and exiting their investment on the stock exchange.

How do I buy and sell units in these Funds?
Transacting to buy or sell units in an AMP Capital active exchange traded managed fund is done through your regular broker just like buying or selling a share or an ETF. All settlement is via CHESS. Please remember to read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) of each active exchange traded managed fund prior to investing.
