2008 acheivements

Overview

2008 was a key year for CR and AMP Capital Investors Property. Despite increasing market volatility and economic uncertainty, CR policy principles became further embedded in our business processes. Our pan-Property CR Committee and sub-committee structures became ingrained, involving more than 20 people from right across the Property Division, whilst a market-leading approach to CR management at the asset level was initiated by O&I.

In 2008, we continued our support of the CitySwitch Green Office energy management programme and we were proud to host the CitySwitch 2008 Annual Executive Briefing at our historic harbour side head office at Circular Quay. We also took part in the second annual Earth Hour event, which went global in 2008. Members of our team took part in the Clean Up Day and National Tree Day events along with volunteering for a range of community-focused projects.

Our community

Our Adopt-a-Charity campaign became embedded in our culture, with the programme in the AMP Centre raising over $40,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic at Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney. In 2009, our Adopt-a-Charity programme will be extended to include a further two O&I A-Grade CBD properties

Our marketplace

CR reporting processes for our Fund Annual Reports were standardised whilst work commenced on incorporating Global Reporting Initiative principles in our future reporting processes

Our workplace

A dedicated source of CR information was established on our intranet, whilst operational support and reporting tools, procedures and compliance guidelines were made centrally available on O&I's ipCompass intranet site

Our environment

In 2008, O&I took a market-leading approach to CR, locking environmental goals into 10-year investment plans at the asset level, as part of our dedicated investment management model

Energy

  • A 7.8% reduction in energy usage across our office portfolio - the equivalent of over 4,200 cars off the road

Waste

  • A 16% increase in recycling rates for our office buildings in NSW

Water

  • Installation of water saving technology as standard where appropriate in our properties, with water savings across the portfolio the equivalent of over 600 backyard swimming pools
