Director, Sustainable Alpha Funds
Michael Anderson, BEc, GradDipTheol, FIAA

With 20 years investment experience, Michael Anderson has an extensive background in Australian equities management and has held a range of senior asset management positions within AMP Capital Investors. In 1989, Michael became the Head of Australian Industrial Research team within the Equity team of AMP Capital Investors. In 1991 he was appointed portfolio manager of AMP’s Statutory Fund No.3.

Since then Michael has had a significant role in developing the business models and investment processes of many of the Australian Equity businesses. Over the last 15 years he has either led or had a strategic role in the set up of the Enhanced Index, ActiveQuant, Protected Growth, Value Plus and Sustainable Teams. In recent years he has also led Australian Equities, and as Director of Advanced Strategies Michael was responsible for assisting the business incubate new investment capabilities and developing its hedge funds business.

In recent years, Michael’s key focus has been leading the Sustainable Alpha Funds Team since it formation in August 2000. With his team, Michael has been responsible for developing our Sustainable Alpha Funds process (initially building on insights from UK Henderson team and its 20 year track record). The team has a focus of adding value through analysing more dimensions of a company’s performance with the goals of providing superior returns and meeting client values.

Head of Capital Funds (Acting), Senior Portfolio Manager/Analyst
Gary Armor, BSc (Eng), MSc, DIC, ARSM, CEng MIMMM

Gary Armor is responsible for Resources, Building Materials, Chemicals and Utilities sectors of AMPCI’s Capital portfolios. Gary joined AMP Capital in early 1993 after spending 19 years as a mining engineer in Europe, North America, Africa and Australia. 

He has direct experience in planning, operating and managing both underground and open-pit mines in a variety of commodities. He has also spent a significant part of his career in the project evaluation and acquisition areas of several of the world’s major resource companies.  

Head of Multi-Strategy
Mark McClatchey, BEc, MCom, MAppStats

Mark was appointed to Head the Multi-Strategy team in July 2006. He is responsible for leading the Enhanced Index, Quant and Risk teams. Mark joined AMP Capital in January 1999 to head up the Active Quant team within our Australian shares operation. In this role, Mark was committed to ensuring the outperformance of the funds against the relevant benchmarks in accordance with their risk profile. He strongly focused on managing and developing the investment process in conjunction with the team’s research effort.

Mark is one of the earlier pioneers of quantitative investing and research in the Australian market and developed his skills in quant roles with ANZ Securities and HSBC Securities. Mark has the distinction of being rated the ‘number one quant analyst’ for six years by an independent poll of institutional fund managers.

Head of Active Quant Funds
Lachlan Davis, BEc (Hons), MBA

Lachlan Davis was appointed to his current position as Head of Active Quant Funds and Senior Portfolio Manager/Analyst in July 2006. He has held the role of Senior Portfolio Manager/Analysts for the Active Quant team since 1997 and also had responsibility for the ongoing management and research of AMP Capital’s Active Quant portfolios and was also involved in client servicing and business development activities. Lachlan joined the Investment Solutions team at AMP Capital in 1996 where he was responsible for quantitative research. Prior to working at AMP Capital, Lachlan completed his MBA at the Australian Graduate School of Management after three years with Shell Australia.
